Meet Drake Montoya
Drake Montoya is a Retired U.S. Air Force Veteran with a distinguished 20-year military career and over three decades of martial arts experience. His lifelong dedication to discipline, training, and service is evident in every role he’s taken on. Certified as a Muay Thai Kru by the USMTA, Drake has spent years refining and teaching practical, real-world combative techniques rooted in precision, respect, and effectiveness.
His martial arts journey began at the age of seven and continued throughout his military service, where he further expanded his expertise in edged weapons and tactical readiness.
Beyond the mat and the field, Drake is also a master dog handler, bringing the same focus and intensity to canine training as he does to martial arts. Academically, he holds two Associate Degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration, and a Master of Public Administration, blending hands-on expertise with strategic leadership.
As the co-founder of Montoya K9 and Tactical Throwing, Drake channels his military background and martial arts mastery into empowering others. His mission is clear - to instill confidence, capability, and resilience through high-quality instruction, whether in martial arts, edged weapons, or canine training.
Meet Amber Quintana
Amber’s the co-founder/other half of both Tactical Throwing & Montoya K9.
She is a disabled Air Force Veteran, mom to the 4 legged Montoya K9 Pack & the very first student of Tactical Throwing’s program.
Amber shares “when I picked up my first throwing knife I had no prior experience, no background in martial arts- zero training! Drake showed me how to throw, I took to it easily, & fell in love with throwing. Not just because it’s fun (it is), or because it looks cool (also true), it gave me focus while being in touch with my physical body. It helped me feel more calm and confident. Now, I get to help others find that same thing!”
Tactical Throwing isn’t about being a “weapons expert.” It’s for everyday people who want to learn a new skill, let off steam, and feel empowered. Whether you're a Veteran, a busy parent, or just someone looking for something fun to do - start throwing!
